First-time application process
For students applying for first-year or transfer admission, follow the steps outlined for you here.
WashU is committed to meeting 100 percent of demonstrated financial need with no-loan offers for all admitted students, but we can’t help you if we don’t have your application. Even if you don’t believe you are eligible, you should take the time to apply for financial aid. You might be surprised to find out that financial aid is available to help students like you.
Once our office receives this information, we will consider your family’s financial circumstances. Your financial aid offer is based on the information you and your parents provide. WashU uses this information to determine the amount we expect your family can pay toward your educational expenses.
If you are not applying for university-funded aid, only a FAFSA is required to be considered for federal and state financial aid.
The CSS Profile should be submitted by all need-based financial aid applicants. This includes incoming first-year applicants, transfer applicants, and current domestic students.
Please visit our Application Dates & Deadlines page for submission deadlines for each application round.
The CSS Profile is used by nearly 400 colleges and scholarship programs. There is a $16 fee for every college you want to submit to.

Special circumstances & dependency override
We recognize that each student’s situation is unique and want to work with you to address any questions or updates about financial aid. We are happy to consider special circumstances that may affect your ability to pay for college, whether there have been changes in your family’s financial circumstances or information that was not fully represented by your CSS Profile and/or FAFSA. We will also consider requests to apply for financial aid as an independent student. Full details about submitting special circumstances or dependency override requests can be found on our Common Questions page.
